Upon completion of this course, students should be able:
To hear and identify chords, chord progressions and modulations to closely related keys, using triads in root position, first and second inversions;
To show proficiency in transcribing onto paper two and three-part dictation exercises;
To show proficiency in performing tonal and non-tonal melodies.

Chord progressions using chords in root position as well as in inversions;
Two-part rhythmic dictations;
Three-part dictation exercises in a variety of musical styles;
Non-tonal melodic exercises.

In the classroom:
- Lectures: introducing topics and key concepts.
- Practical exercises: working together with students on selected examples.

Students can choose between:
Continuous Assessment:
- Weekly assignments (50%)
- Written examination of two hours duration (50%)
Final exam
- Written examination of two hours duration (100%)
