The Comparative Literature II curricular unit aims to develop literary comparative competences based on the relation and the cross-referencing of different literary, aesthetic and cultural works.

Representation of the reader in detective fiction
1. Origins and the notion of genre (detective and mystery novels);
2. Myth and the detective novel;
3. The fantastic and the detective novel;
4. The detective novel and "nouveau roman";
5. The figures of the narrator and the reader in the detective novel.

Teaching Methods

- Seminar sessions (theoretical and practical);
- Written commentaries in class;
- Essays;
- Analysis of literary texts;
- Individual oral presentations.
Assessment: Students may choose between two modes of assessment: (1) continuous or (2) exam.
I - Continuous Assessment: Written piece of work: 50%. Oral presentation: 40%. In the class, written works and oral participation: 10%.
II - Exam: Final exam: Written test: 100%
