1 - To understand culture and arts as areas of specialized study in history.
2 - To promote and develop critical thinking and debate about the epistemological boundaries of History as a scientific area.
3- To promote interdisciplinary dialogue from the perspective of history.

1- To know and dominate the conceptual, theoretical and methodological specificities of research in Cultural and Arts History.
2 - To known examples of research subjects and problems in Cultural and Arts History.

1.1.1 Written (manuscript and print), iconographic, oral, audio, audio-visual sources.
1.2 Cultural History as the history of intellectual production and cultural practices, case studies:
1.2.1 Identities and Empire (XVI-XVIII centuries)
1.2.2 Cultural Practices, Religion and Heritage (XVI-XVIII centuries)
1.2.3 The Book, the Reading and the Education (18th-19th centuries).
2. The Arts as an Object of Study and Source of Historical Knowledge: from Objects to Artistic Phenomena.
2.1 Arts History Sources.
2.1.1 Built, visual, audio, audio-visual and written (manuscript and print) sources.
2.2 The Arts as a Process and a Historical Fact. Case Studies:
2.2.1 Painters, Patrons and Collections (17th - 18th centuries).
2.2.2 Art and the Construction of National Identities (19th-20th centuries).

Teaching Methods
		  		      The 60 teaching hours allocated to the course unit will be distributed as follows:
4 theoretical and expository hours dedicated to the exhibition of the theoretical process of the construction of Culture and Arts as objects of study and thematic fields of History.
50 theoretical-practical hours, in a seminar system, equally distributed among the case studies. The sessions will be based on the presentation and discussion of texts and iconography, and may also include study visits.
6 practical hours, dedicated to the oral presentation of the work by the students.
Final evaluation: written work with oral presentation in class, in which the student will have to develop the critical analysis of a theme of his/her choice, among the thematic areas covered by the case studies.
Weighting of the final classification:
- participation in seminars = 10%.
- work project and oral presentation = 20%
- written work = 70%.
