Learning Goals
To promote reflection and criticize about different ways that structure planting design and vegetation has presented and presents at different scales and typologies.
Students should acquire skills about spatial and visual landscape design principles applying them to a wide range of situations without missing cultural and ecological context. Acquire research methodology skills about plants selection and its relationship with evolution of natural process. Students should do a detailed planting design of a project already developed on another course units (Landscape Projects), applying theorical and practical knowledge.

Contents
In the last decades the return to an ecological discourse has determined new options in landscape design. As an example of this changes is the work developed, all over the world, by Piet Oudolf, Michel Desvigne, Gille Clément, Adriasan Geuze, Michel Courajoud, James Corner, James Hitchmough, Thomas Rainer and Olivier. These programmatic subjects will be approached from the following themes:
- Design with plants is design with nature: definition of a strutural planting design underlying cultural, aesthetic and ecological principles. To understand natural processes as the visual and spatial interrelations.
- Planting design and the management of natural vegetation processes.
- Selection of plants according to an ecological and sustainable context - native or exotic plants.
- Contextualization in space and time of different options in landscape design with presentation of case studies.
- Practical work- planting design following the projects carried out in course units of Landscape Proje

Teaching Methods
The syllabus is taught using audiovisual media and complemented by participation in lectures, conferences, workshops and study visits, with the presentation of study cases.
Due to the specificity of this subject, the evaluation is continuous, resulting from the monitoring of theoretical and practical works developed during the semester.
Assessment elements: reviews, individually or in groups, plantings design and oral presentation of all the theoretical and practical works.
Given the skills and the nature of the work to be developed by the student, there is no opportunity for an evaluation through a final exam, appeal exam or exam in the special or extraordinary season.
