Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

This Curricular Unit (CU) aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge to identify the historical processes that led to the creation of International Organisations (IOs) and to understand their role in global governance. By the end of the course, students should be able to critically analyse the theoretical debates on the functioning and intervention of IOs in international life and to reflect critically on the key challenges of global governance.
Proactive teaching methods will ensure the active involvement of students in the learning process, promoting the development of transversal competences such as problem solving, critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration.

Teaching Methods

The course aligns with the strategy of curricular renewal and pedagogical innovation initiated by the University of Évora. This approach emphasizes student-centered teaching and learning, focusing on the development of core competencies. As a result, the methodology aims to cultivate essential skills such as critical thinking, intellectual independence, self-confidence, creativity, autonomy in problem-solving, and collaborative teamwork.
To achieve these objectives, inquiry-based and problem-based learning strategies will be integrated into classroom activities. Various tasks will be conducted through the Moodle platform, fostering both autonomous and collaborative student engagement. Additionally, a wide range of digital technologies will be utilized to enhance the learning experience.

Assessment

Self-regulatory assessment practices for student learning will be implemented, through qualitative assessment centred on feedback, enabling students to improve their skills throughout the semester.
For continuous assessment, the following elements will be assessed:
- Participation (10%).
- Completion of tasks - individual and co-operative (via moodle tasks) (60%).
- Presentations of individual and/or co-operative work (30%).
The criteria used to assess the tasks carried out are as follows:
Fulfilment of objectives.
Ability to organise content.
Coherence and relevance of arguments.
Originality.
Bibliography used.

The exam consists of an open-ended question test.
