Presentation
Aims to understand the contribution of Sociology in the analysis of the dynamics of collective conflict and its prevention in the international context around the fields of defence, security and development.

This course involves the application of methods and theories of peace studies and conflict, framed in the main subjects of study in political sociology of international relations and to understand the contribution of sociology to analyze the dynamics of collective conflict and its prevention..
a) Understand how international changes, and an unexpected way, the existing order and generated a high degree, factors of instability and uncertainty with a clear impact in the areas of security and defense;
b) Identify the many aspects (sociological, military, legal and psychological) of the War in order to investigate the causes, course and effects of armed conflicts;
c) Examine the key features of current international and political concepts - recently adopted strategic military forces to impose new requirements;
d) To analyze the change of use of force in international relations, with a mission to preserve peace, and consequent production capacity of theoretical studies for Peace.

Introductory Questions: Conceptual framework of the discipline; The issue of the phenomena of peace and conflict in an international context.
State Power and Violence: The role of state and other actors in the international system; The political and military power in a democracy; Defense policy and departmental policy; Military Institution, Society and Political Power
The Geopolitics of Peace and Conflict: Power, geography and conflict in our times; War and Peace: the use of violence and the "Agenda for Peace"
Horizons research on peace and war: Research for peace: the current situation and future prospects; Main theories on the origin of war
New forms of warfare and violence without borders: Military and nonmilitary threats; Transnationalization of defense and security and systems of collective security; Redefinition of implementation strategies and missions of the forces involved; Models of relationship between international security and peace keeping.

I. Oral presentation, using information technologies and communication, research articles, texts in specialized magazines
II. Practical exercises in the classroom.
III. Exercise of work outside of (Group work) accompanied by the teacher.
IV. Participation of those invited to the sessions dynamic.
EXAMINATION
I . Continuous assessment: written examination (45%);practical exercise (40%); 3) other assessment elements (exercises performed in and out of the classroom, film presentation reports and conference reports)(15%)
II . Final examination: written examination (100%).
