Learning Goals
Describe the sensory, cognitive, affective components of the different symptoms and clinical situations (wounds, ostomies, confusion, agitation and delirium, etc.) in patients suffering from an advanced and progressive disease;
Describe the potential influences of variables such as tension, anxiety, fear, fatigue on the perception and response to different symptoms;
Describe and use common assessment tools/scales to assess symptoms;
Recognize that symptom control involves multimodal treatment;
Describe and use pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods to control symptoms, assess their effectiveness in patients with organ failure, dementia, confusion or delirium;
Identify situations that justify the use of the SC route and hypodermoclysis;
Understand the care to be provided to the patient in the last days and hours of life, including the family;
Knowing how to identify and act in emergency situations in palliative care.
