Presentation

The UC intends to guarantee the students' acquisition of the understanding, critical analyse and operationalization of concepts, approaches and methodological procedures necessary to carry out research in Arts.

The curricular unit aims to promote, develop and consolidate theoretical reflection in articulation with practical in arts research perspective, namely in the field of performing arts.
1.To know historical landmarks, concepts and relevant authors in research who contribute to the development of contemporary research in artistic areas;
2.To know and critically analyze the diversity of paradigmatic perspectives, models and approaches of research in arts;
3. To know relevant contemporary research practices in the processes of creation of the actor / director;
4. To identify participatory research methodologies, applicable to the performing arts in different social contexts;
5. To think, discuss and articulate with a curious and critical mind research processes related to the creation and artistic intervention ;
6.To design a research plan: identification of problematic, inquiry and explicitness of objectives;
7. To structure academic writing according scientific standards

Contents

1 .Research in Arts: paradigms, contemporary trends, interdisciplinarity,and problematizing topics . Cross-cutting issues concerning the ethical and political dimension in arts research.
2. Specificities of artistic research as an object of study. Typologies and formats in the production of artistic research. Examples of practices of contemporary creators;
3. Preparation of research: principles for reading a make synthesis of book and articles , critical review, articles and abstracts;
4. Organization of research : stages of the investigative process, research questions,state of the art , articulation of concepts .Artistic research - practice based & fieldwork;
5. Methodologies, procedures and instruments in data collection. Contributions of methods and techniques of social sciences and humanities for research in arts: interview, focus group, life history, document analysis, research / action, ethnographic studies;
6- Scientific writing: styles and standards of scientific papers.

Teaching Methods

The curricular unit follows a teaching profile that associates theoretical knowledge, supported by current questions about the art(s), and practical research, which should enable students to conduct autonomous research according to their concerns / problems.
Mixed methodologies of an analytical expositive nature, debates and presentation of audiovisual material will be used. Written exercises according to the program of the discipline as well as guided readings around the existing theoretical production in the area and critical analysis of artistic thought intend to contribute to the construction of a proper discourse, by each student.

Evaluation:

1. Development of exercises proposed throughout the lessons according to the capacity of analysis and critical thinking - 60%.

2. Participation and assiduity - 40%.
