Learning Goals

- Develop the student's ability to read music fluently.
- Give the students a knowledge of the basic orchestral repertoire.
- Develop the student's sense of intonation and balance.
- Develop techniques of ensemble playing.

Contents

- Sight-reading and rehearsal of orchestral works. Each semester has its own repertoire, chosen from among the works that are most suited to the instrumental group formed. A concert program is prepared. Depending on difficulty of the works and the time available, other works may be added in the second half of the semester.

Teaching Methods

The lessons take the form of an orchestral rehearsal. In addition to the rehearsal of the works chosen, other aspects of orchestral playing are worked on: orchestral discipline, the tuning process, behaviour, etc. Rehearsal technique includes the detailed practice of small passages as well as the sense of continuity implicit in longer passages.
