OBJECTIVES:
With this course is intended that students obtain knowledge about the basic concepts of quality management,
about the fundamentals and requirements of a Quality Management System, understand the benefits and
critical factors of implementation and contact with the process of evaluation of these systems and be able to
develop the planning, control and quality assurance in an organization, using basic tools of quality
improvement.
COMPETENCES:
Ability to work as a team, to integrate and lead teams;
Ability to critique and criticism with a view to continuous improvement;
Ability to decision making and problem solving and to apply quantitative and qualitative methodologies
related to the implementation of a Quality Management System;
Capacity handling, application and implementation of methods, techniques and tools of Quality
Management.

1) Concept, steps and "gurus" of quality;
2) Impact of a Quality Management System in the life of an organization;
3) Certification and Standards;
4) The Total Quality Management (TQM);
5) Quality Models;
6) Quality Tools.

Teaching Methods

Due to the eminently practical and instrumental value of materials, attention will be turned to an operational approach based on solving practical cases related to this subject. A set of documents related to this subject will be examined and a number of individual and group works will be conducted.
Continuous evaluation: final grade will result from a weighted average of individual work (with oral presentation) and a group work, considering the following weightings: Individual work: 75%; Group work: 25%.
Examination evaluation: the final grade will result from a weighted average of individual work and the written test exam, considering the following weightings: Individual work: 50%;Written Exam: 50%.
