Learning Goals

The curricular unit aims to provide students with a global knowledge of the main bacterial, fungal and prionic infectious diseases of domestic animals, and when applicable, of wild animals. Practical laboratory and field classes aim to provide students with knowledge of the diagnostic tools available, prophylaxis measures and therapeutics of infectious diseases. Students will acquire practical knowledge through problem solving and clinical case studies and official eradication plans for the diseases addressed
The skills to be developed are:
• Ability to perform immunological tests (serological tests and tuberculinization)
• Ability to perform specific bacteriological diagnosis
• Ability to relate symptoms and pathological lesions with the aetiologic agent
• Ability to research the most appropriate therapeutic and prophylactic options

Teaching Methods

Each week there will be a seminar (180 minutes) and a practical laboratory (120 minutes).
Theoretical pratical lectures will consist of plenary sessions dedicated to the acquisition of basic concepts and knowledge on the diseases followed by the discussion of clinical cases. The practical lectures will be held in the laboratory, in the field for large animal practice or will consist of disease eradication or surveillance plans.
Continuous assessment - 2 tests - minimum classification equal to or greater than 10 values (9.5) in each test.
Examination regime - written or oral exam with minimum rating equal to or higher than 10 values.
Students who have not attended a minimum of 75% of practical classes will have to take an oral exam and obtain a minimum grade of 10 points.
