Learning Goals

The objectives of the course are to develop in the student the following skills in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals, by knowing how to:
- correctly collect samples of tissues, cells and physiological liquids;
- ship properly the samples for different laboratorial procedures;
- complete requests for laboratory tests and other complementary diagnostic tests;
- know the samples processing before and after shipping
- perform the techniques of laboratory diagnostic means, and interpret the results;

Contents

Tutored on-site accompanying of laboratory technical activities of clinical analysis, histopathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and parasitology in the areas of companion animals, horses, production and exotic animals.
Tutored face-to-face accompanying of clinical procedures where samples are collected for laboratory analysis, according to standardized and biosafety procedures.

Teaching Methods

Each student will perform theree shifts of tow or three consecutive hours, in each of the three hospital service laboratories (histopathology and pathological anatomy, microbiology and parasitology) each semester, whose activities will be recorded and validated on a registry sheet which will act as a logbook.
Continuous assessment: evaluating the skills of each student, demonstrated by executing the procedures performed in each laboratory per semester, of which one will be chosen to be recorded in video; The student, in a group activity, will have to choose one of the internship labs and will conduct a report that will be discussed in a seminar with the oral presentation at the end of the second semester.

Assessment

Continued assessment will include: the evaluation of performance of activities performed in each laboratory during their internships, the presentation of the group report and their oral presentation and the video presentation of the activity chosen.
The final grade is the average of the grades obtained to 20 points.
Exam evaluation: performed procedures before a jury. The student approves with a minimum classification of 10 values.
