Languages of tutoring support: Portuguese, English
Regime de Frequência: Presencial

Learning Goals

GENERAL OBJECTIVES: Following the General Histology course, teach how to identify the microanatomy of organs and understand their histophysiology, based on the study of species of veterinary interest, and understand the usefulness of cytology as a diagnostic tool.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES: 1. Provide knowledge to understand the structure of organs and systems. 2. Identify and describe these histological architecture of the organs observed under a photonic microscope. 3. Correlate the microscopic anatomy of the different organs with the studies of macroscopic anatomy and its physiology. 4. Analyze and discuss a research article. 5. Communicate the results through reporting, critically interact and use computer programs for histomorphometric analysis.

Contents

THEORETICAL: Morpho-functional and histological study of the tissues that constitute the main organs, according to the organic systems of domestic vertebrates; namely the cardiovascular, immune, skin and integument, musculoskeletal, digestive, respiratory, and uro-genital systems. General histology of the endocrine, nervous and sensory organs.
LABORATORY PRACTICES: Observation and description of histological sections of organ preparations pertaining to the systems identified above. Small work based on definitive preparations and / or scientific article.

Teaching Methods

Structured exposition in theoretical classes. Observation of definitive histological slides. Execution of presentation, and discussion of practical work. Analysis and discussion of scientific articles.
Continuous assessment: weighted average of two written tests (70%), one test with observation, microscopic diagnosis of histological slides and/or photomicrographs (20%) and analysis and presentation of a research article (10%).
Final evaluation: weighted average of written exam (70%), of an exam of observation and diagnosis of histological sections and/or photomicrographs (20%), and analysis and presentation of a research article (10%).
Approval obtaining ? 9.5 values [0-20], and in each of the tests must also obtain ? 9.5 values.
