To develop individual and group creativity in the realm of the teaching area.
To realize specific valorisation projects and communication skills.
To deepen notions related to the management of stage anxiety applied to the practice of the curricular unit.
To develop the knowledge of didactic materials, particularly adapted to the level of 10th to 12th school year (6th to 8th grade) in the specialization area of the student.
To reflect upon the pedagogical qualities of the repertoire included in the Instrument/Jazz/Composition teaching programmes actually in use in Portugal, from the 6th to the 8th grade.
To dominate, from a technical/artistic instrumental standpoint, specific musical works from the student’s specialization area adapted to the level of 6st to 8th grade.
To dominate pedagogical strategies for the approach of the musical parameters texture and expressivity in the context of the teaching and learning situation.

Contents

Study of specific repert/realiz of ensemble music/orchestral projects (Interp/Jazz); concep/realiz of compositional proj (Composition).
Knowledge of specific techniques, didactic mat and repert (6th to 8th grade):
A)Generic
a.Acquisition of interpret autonomy
b.Prepar of a full-scale performance
B)Specific
a.WINDS pitch and tuning
b.STRINGS tuning; double stops; control of the instrument’s total extension
c.ACCORDION harmonic textures, motor coordination and bellow shake
d.PIANO timbre develop/texture layers; double-notes; 8ves, chords; jumps, polyphony
e.GUITAR technical develop; control of the instrument’s total extension
f.PERCUSSION/DRUMS 4-mallet technique (traditional and Stevens); roll techniques for timpani; multi-percussion techniques; rhythmic independence/advanced 4-limbs polyrhythms
g.VOICE methods for singing on different languages
h.COMPOSITION adva knowledge of composition parameters (different styles)
i.JAZZ Mixed forms and adv improvis. Principles of free improv

Teaching Methods

Definition of individual program and bibliography. Conception of a ensemble music project OR participation in an orchestral project (Int/Jazz).Individual/group interactive lessons. Complem activities. CONTINUOUS EVALUATION: student’s performance: 20% presentation of a written paper, on pedagogical and didactic materials (6th-8th grade): 20%; public exam before a jury: Int/Jazz: performance (ca. 40 min.), includ stand concert repert.(25%), ensemble/orchestral music (25%) and didactic repert.(6th-8th grade): 10%.Compos: compositional proj. reflecting the semester’s work: 60%.
