It presents the necessary contents for the development of communication skills

Understanding the general principles of communication with the patient and family, and in a articulate manner with the remaining interdisciplinary team;

Develop communication skills in problematic and complex situations related to the end of life;

Learn hope management with the patient and caregiver;
Understand the objectives and stages of a family conference;

Contents

Communication in palliative care. Basic aspects of communication. Arguments to improve communication; Non-verbal communication. Active and passive listening;
Approach in complex situations: transmission of bad news; aggressiveness; denial; conspiracy of silence;
Family conference.
Spiritual Care. Counselling Relationship
Concept Uncertainty Management, hope in advanced chronic disease; hope promotion strategies
Spiritual needs. The relationship of help in spiritual accompaniment

Teaching Methods

Direct oral expository methodology; group work, discussion of clinical cases; Case Study; Brainstorming; Role Playing; Critical viewing and reflection of films. Supporting bibliography (books, articles, websites).
Learn from communication errors, based on clinical cases.
The evaluation proposes the realization of an individual work, in writing, in which the analysis of a real clinical case of the student himself, or simulated, is requested. The evaluation methodology promotes critical self-reflection and changes in the communication paradigm with end-of-life patients, family and staff. For that, they must make their discussion and theoretical foundation. Supporting bibliography is provided.
