This curricular unit intends to integrate students in the philosophy of palliative care, for this it uses the description of its historical aspects, its assumptions and values.

Reflect on their professional practices in the light of the principles of the philosophy of palliative care, identifying personal difficulties in dealing with death and dying, as well as the obstacles to their implementation. Describe the typologies and models of organization of palliative care.

Teaching Methods
Direct and interactive oral expository method, sharing the individual experiences of each student; Brainstorming about the difficulties and reality of palliative care in Portugal. Movie preview.
Evaluation methodology: mandatory reading and critical review of two books, as a motto for written reflection on personal difficulties in dealing with patients with advanced and terminal illness and their families, with the process of near death and also palliative care as a human right. The work is presented in writing and is individual.
