- To relate the concept of heritage to the legislation that has been produced over time, giving particular relevance to the legislation in force concerning the classification and preservation of heritage;

Contents
1. Cultural heritage law: Portuguese legislation; criteria for the classification of goods of cultural interest: the role of inventory and classification in the protection of cultural goods; the foundation law of cultural heritage; incentives for the participation of the private in the preservation and in the evaluation of the cultural patrimony: the cultural patronage.

Legal procedures relating to the safeguarding, valuing and preservation of classified cultural heritage: the classification of cultural goods; classified property protection zones; conservation and restoration interventions in cultural heritage; the protection of movable cultural heritage (alienation and export).

Teaching Methods
Reading and analysis of historical, legal and essay texts. Commented projection of images. Conferences of specialists and stakeholders in heritage institutions (City Council, Catholic Church, Eugénio de Almeida Foundation, Pró-Évora Group, Regional Directorate of Culture, etc.);
- Continuous and formative assessment: is based on students' participation with presentation and documentation of heritage situations, participation in discussions, and attendance. This component will weigh 30%. The summative assessment is done through the oral and written presentation of a dossier with a proposal to classify an asset, material or immaterial. This component will have a weight of 70%.
