Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

The main objectives of this curricular unit are to analyse the processes of digital transformation and its impacts on society and in education and provide students with the knowledge and skills that allow them to face the challenges and opportunities arising from these processes in the field of education and research.
At the end of this course unit students should be able to achieve the following specific objectives:
1. To sustain an up-to-date, critical and informed view of the role of digital technologies in the field of education and training.
2. To know the emerging pedagogical approaches and perspectives related to the processes of integration of digital technologies in educational contexts.
3. Identify the areas and trends of research in the field of digital technologies in education
4. Select and use available and appropriate tools and technologies for the various processes involved in the fields of educational and research.

Contents

1. The processes of digital transformation and the need to build a rationale for the use of technologies in Education.
2. Emerging perspectives and approaches in the use of digital technologies in education.
3. Areas and trends of research in the field of digital technologies in education.
4. Tools and applications in the field of digital technologies in education.

Teaching Methods

In line with UÉ's institutional Pedagogical Policy, the methodologies in the curricular unit, supported by a socioconstructivist approach, require students to actively engage in autonomous activities (research, reading, analysis of works/articles, and content preparation), collaborative work (discussion, argumentation, digital artifact production, presentation, and peer review), and reflective activities (on their journey and the work done). These activities will be integrated into various sessions, including: i) thematic presentation and discussion sessions led by the professor and invited researchers (in person or remotely); ii) challenge-based learning sessions for analyzing and problematizing the topics under study, including exploring and evaluating emerging technologies for different educational and research processes. Active participation is crucial for success, requiring students to attend classes regularly (cf. article 105 of the RAUE).

Assessment

I. Continuous Assessment Regime
Evaluation takes place throughout the course, with constructive feedback provided on activities at various stages. The final grade will be determined based on the following components:
A) A systematic literature review that aligns with one of the four key thematic areas of this curricular unit, to be conducted collaboratively (80% of the final grade).
B) A self-assessment of participation (engagement, interaction, and attendance) (20% of the final grade).

II. Final Evaluation Regime
The evaluation will consist of a written exam, conducted during the evaluation period as defined in the academic calendar. The grade obtained in this exam will account for 100% of the final grade.
