Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

It is expected that the students prepare and presents a thesis project, structured and scheduled, that contributes in an innovative and original way to the knowledge advancement. The thesis project should reflect the capacity for systematic understanding in the field of agrarian and environmental sciences, and demonstrate the capacity to conceive, design, adapt and carry out scientific research in accordance with the requirements imposed by academic quality and integrity standards. During the teaching-learning process, the student must acquire the ability to critically analyze, evaluate and synthesize new and complex ideas, as well as to identify the methods and techniques of research in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences that best suit the objectives of the study.

Finally, the student must develop personal and scientific maturity to present the thesis project, and the expected results, to the academic community and to the society in general.

Contents

The contents of this course aims to prepare the thesis project:
a) literature review in order to know the state of the art on the thesis theme;
b) clear definition of the objectives proposed for scientific research and the hypotheses;
c) elaboration of the experimental design proposal, with methodological basis and evaluation of the necessary means for the experimental work;
d) definition of expected results;
e) contingency plan, according to the expected constraints;
f) thesis schedule;
g) public presentation, defense and discussion of the thesis project.

Teaching Methods

This course favours tutorial teaching, with a strong component of work to be done by the student. The student is asked for an individual work of analysis and synthesis on the literature review, a proposal of the thesis theme and a thesis project in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, that can successfully accomplish, framed in the structures where the works will be carried out. The supervisor and the course commission will be responsible for guiding, discussing and framing the student's learning.

The evaluation consists of the presentation and discussion of the thesis project, and will be made by the thesis monitoring committee (CAT) taking into account the written work and the presentation and discussion. The final classification is qualitative (approved or not approved). The thesis monitoring committee will be made up of an element of the Course Commission, the supervisor(s) and up to two members external to this panel, experts in the scientific area.
