Learning Goals
Basic training in the field of Numerical Methods, at the theoretical level but with emphasis on applications. Analysis of numerical simulation results based on the notions of error, convergence and stability. Illustration of the potentialities of numerical methods in the application of Mathematics to Economics, Management, Engineering and Natural Sciences.
Contents
Basic concepts of numerical calculation: floating point systems, errors, conditioning, convergence, stability.
Resolution of systems of linear and nonlinear equations.
Interpolation and approximation of functions.
Numerical derivation and integration.
Implementation of some numerical algorithms in an interactive numerical and symbolic calculation system.
Introduction to numerical resolution of ordinary differential equations.
Examples of applications of numerical methods in Economics, Management, Engineering and Natural Sciences.

Teaching Methods
The teaching process will be organized based in the form of theoretical and practical-laboratory sessions.
The theoretical sessions are predominantly given on the board and with the projection of slides. The theoretical concepts are illustrated by practical examples. In the laboratory-practical classes it is foreseen the active use of computational resources and implementation of the most important numerical algorithms.

Assessment
The evaluation consists, in the continuous evaluation regime, on two midterm tests with equal weight (40%+40%) and a computational test (20%); in the examination regime, consists on an examination (80%) and a computational test (20%). The computational test is mandatory to any of the evaluation regimes, including the special and the extraordinary examinations.
