Presentation
This UC is essentially laboratory in nature, offering the opportunity of developing technical and scientific skills in the field of cell culture, namely, maintenance, manipulation and use of animal cells and tissues in research and biotechnological development.
Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
It is expected that at the end of this course the students have acquired the fundamental knowledge on
animal cell culture, specifically on isolation, culture and handling of animal cells, knowledge on asepsis
and work in a sterile environment and that it provides a development of knowledge of the ethical and
deontological aspects of animal investigation and experimentation.
Skills:
Scientific: Knowledge management (Sourcing / selecting / interpreting data; Data evaluation / problem
solving);
Technical: Laboratory procedures and asepsis; Experimental design; Accuracy; data analysis; selforganization:
Planning and Time management;
Managing Interrelationships: Teamwork; Decision taking; Learning from others; Sharing; Critique
receiving.
Presentation Skills: Lab report; Oral; Essay; Short exam-type answers; Data presentation.
Transferable (key) skills: qualities for course-based and other employment; skills necessary for the
exercising of personal responsibility.
