Learning Goals
This curricular unit aims to introduce the students to the scientific field of Textual Criticism, as a fundamental discipline for the recovery and preservation of the textual heritage of languages which is built on and in interrelationship with several other disciplines, such as Paleography, Diplomatics, Codicology and Material Bibliography. Thus, in addition to the basic theoretical knowledge (history of the discipline, interdisciplinary relations, problems and typologies of the text and edition), it aims to introduce the students into the editorial practice, helping them make informed decisions in this subject matter which, at the end of the semester, will result in the edition of a text from our heritage.

Teaching Methods
This course is developed by means of group sessions of theoretical and practical nature. Theoretical expositions (supported by power-point, texts or other relevant material in each case), which will occupy the first part of the semester, will provide the students with the knowledge necessary for the transition into the know how to do, which is intended to be achieved in the second part of the semester, and to be applied into the development of an individual project of edition of a text from our heritage. The project will be partially developed in the last five collective sessions of the semester (editing workshop), where students will be able to work together and with their teacher, and individually supervised by the teacher in tutorial sessions (2h weekly). Students may choose between two modes of assessment: (i)submission of a project work (100%) or (ii) exam (Cf. RAUÉ).
