Presentation
This course aims to transmit and develop in students, knowledge and skills related to the importance of PA, and in particular Physical Exercise, as a resource to increase the population's quality of life, and can be a means of prevention for a wide range of pathologies.
Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
1) Identify the terminology used in exercise and health (oxygen consumption, physical fitness, physical condition, exercise prescription, etc.).
2) Characterise the intensity levels of physical activity (PA), highlighting the problems associated with a sedentary lifestyle.
3) Recognise the levels of PA in the Portuguese population and ways of monitoring it using various instruments (questionnaires, pedometers, cardiofrequency meters, etc).
4) Recognise the levels of PA in the Portuguese population and ways of monitoring it based on the use of various batteries of PA tests.
5) Know how to establish recommendations in terms of PA and PAF for young people, adults and older people.
6) Identify the health risks and benefits that different types of physical activity/exercise can induce in the population.
7) Recognise the benefits of regular physical exercise on the health of populations with various pathologies.

Teaching Methods
We advocate teaching centred on student learning and learning centred on developing competencies. Thus, after a general approach, students will conduct research on the proposed topics through the presentation of concepts at a theoretical level. They will be challenged to prepare the content so that they can discuss and find solutions, initially in groups and later in the whole class.
Digital resources will also be used to manage communication through the Moodle platform, which is used to organise and make available materials relating to the teaching and learning process.

Assessment
The assessment will consist of:
1 - Prepare an original article in English to be presented in the last in poster format on implementing a physical exercise programme in elderly subjects or those with some pathology, which will correspond to 95% of the final mark. This point will take into account
- Ability to organise and structure the work and the quality of the content covered
- Quality of the writing, ability to summarise and clarity.
- Depth and level of scientific and technical-methodological knowledge in the article presented, demonstrated through confident presentation and responses to the lecturer and fellow students.
- Compliance with the time set for the presentation
2 - Student attitude, which will account for 5% of the final mark.
