Learning Goals

Objectives: In specific terms, this curricular unit seeks to explore the structures concepts of the Strategy and to endow the students of the instruments more used in this domain of the knowledge. Thus, it is intended, in concrete, to develop the learning in 4 slopes:
A) To transmit specific knowledge of global management, particularly on the formulation and implementation of strategies in the organizations;
B) To facilitate the integration of knowledge acquired in other disciplines and to evidence as those knowledge can be very useful to the management Strategic;
C) To analysis capacities and resolution of problems in the organizational context;
D) To develop decision capacities, synthesis, teamworking, and oral presentation.

Contents

1. Introduction and fundamental concepts.
2. Strategy: methods and techniques.
3. Strategic manager
4. Strategic thought and strategic plan.
5. Strategic planning process.
6. Environmental analysis: of the external and internal approach.
7. SWOT matrix.
8. Strategic formulation (vision, mission, objectives and decisions)
9. Strategic implementation and control.

Teaching Methods

The method adopted for the acquisition and development of knowledge is based in the model of “teaching-research-application”. The sessions will include expositive sessions, sessions doing team work and sessions for presentation and discussion of the realized projects (Role-Playing method);
The support material will be available in the e-learning Moodle platform in the University of Évora;

Assessment

Alternative 1 - Continuous Assessment Regime
The method of teaching "learning by doing " is used, that articulates:
- A writing test (50% for the final classification);
- Case Studies, team work (20%);
- Thematic group works, with written and oral presentation (30%);
An evaluation of less than 7 values, take the student to the final assessement regime.
Alternative 2 - Final Assessement Regime
The final score of each student results, directly and exclusively, from the results of written test individual (100% for the final classification).
