Goals:
Deepen knowledge on the psychological of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum and the processes of transition to parenting in health and risk situations
Acquire skills for Childbirth Preparation (CP) and Parenting
Skills:
Demonstrate knowledge and ability to analyze the processes of transition to parenting
Apply knowledge, problem-solving capacity, and ability to reflect on the care of the woman/couple in the process of parenting
Demonstrate ability to identify situations of psychological risk and to judge and deal with complex simulated situations
Understand concepts and importance of CP in pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum periods
Evidence of control strategies and pain relief and analyze and advise on CP exercises.
Evidence of ability to communicate succinctly and objectively the different CP and parenting models and techniques of relaxation, neuromuscular and ventilatory control
Demonstrate having developed self-learning skills

• Physical transformations of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum and the genesis of maternal and paternal identity;
• The development of prenatal bonding, between the fantasmatic baby and the imaginary baby.

Teaching Methods

Students are expected to actively participate. Classroom based. The expository and reflexive method is used. Situations will constantly be simulated in laboratory classes. Tutorials will be offered on an individual and/or group basis, either face-to-face or via video conference.
Continuous assessment will comprise a theoretical test and assessment of practical situations for sessions on the preparation of the birth (physical and psychological preparation, relaxation exercises, neuromuscular controls and breathing exercises). The final grade is the arithmetic average of the results from the two time points. Normal and catch-up exams are scheduled pursuant to the regulations in force.
