Summary

The project will develop studies about the main aspects of the production chain of the cv. "Galega vulgar". The clone selection of this cultivar, which as began in 1996, contributing for the production of selected material, based in specific agronomic characteristics, will be pursuit. All clones will be characterized morphologically and molecularly. Plant production systems by semi-hardwood cuttings and by in vitro methods will be improved. The evaluation of physiological and anatomical parameters of the rooting process, will be considered to achieve those proposes. The study of the cultural behaviour from cultivars already used in intensive (> 300 plant/ha) and super-intensive orchards (> 1000 plant/ha), will allow collecting data about the adaptability of the 'Galega vulgar' cultivar to those production regimes. Experimental orchards of ‘Galega vulgar' will be installed and used as demonstration units for farmers.

Recuperação do interesse cultural da cv.'Galega vulgar', demonstrando a superior qualidade do seu azeite e desenvolvendo novas técnicas que permitam uma redução dos custos de produção de plantas e de implantação e gestão de olivais desta cultivar.
