Summary

The first Centers of RVCC appeared in Portugal in 2000, with the purpose of recognizing, validating and certifying the adult competences with 18 years of age and superior, who did not possess the compulsory school education, so that they could improve the levels of school certification, promoting the continuity of subsequent processes of education and qualification, on a perspective of Lifelong Learning, and increasing their opportunities of employment , social and professional mobility. The present project intends to assess the personal, social and professional impacts of the process of Recognition, Validation and Certification of Competencies (RVCC) in the universe of individuals (2969 subjects) that in allover Alentejo, in the period 2000-2005, having been part of the process, have seen their competences certified and, as a consequence their school levels altered. Besides, and bearing in mind a significant period has already gone by, (6-10 years) since these individuals have their competences certified, the investigation also assumes the objective of proceeding to the analysis of the eventual subsequent histories which have been concretized by these subjects, in the formal education and qualification systems and of the social and professional mobility resulting from there, expecting to verify whether the principle of the Lifelong Learning (which was at the very origin of the system RVCC) is a concretized reality by the population to be studied and if so, whether the same individual finds some consequence at the individual, professional and social level. The investigation to concretize, of a descriptive nature, will assume a methodological quantitative basis, recurring to yhe application of a questionnaire to all the universe. The analysis to perform will assume a geographical dimension, in the sense that a possible territorialized reading of the results is made, according to the geographical and administrative divisions existing in Alentejo (districts, councils and parishes).


Goals, activities and expected/achieved results

1. Avaliar os impactos, pessoais, profissionais e sociais, do processo de Reconhecimento, Validação e Certificação de Competências (RVCC) no universo de indivíduos (2969 sujeitos) que, em toda a região Alentejo, no período 2000-2005, nele tendo participado, viram certificadas as suas competências e, em consequência, alterados os respectivos níveis de escolaridade;

2. Proceder à análise dos eventuais percursos subsequentes que tenham sido concretizados por estes sujeitos, nos sistemas formais de educação e formação e a mobilidade profissional e social daí resultante, na expectativa de verificar se o princípio da Aprendizagem ao Longo da Vida (que esteve na génese do próprio sistema de RVCC) é uma realidade concretizada pela população em estudo e, em caso afirmativo, se o mesmo encontra alguma consequência nos planos individual, profissional e social.
