Summary
Intensive olive orchards (300 to 400 trees per hectare) count for the new plantations. Trunk shaking and collecting canvas method have limtations due to the scarce, expensive labour and high frequency of operations. Inverted umbrellas can only be used before the canopy growth becomes an obstacle to the deployment of the umbrella. Only changing from trunk shaking to a continuous canopy shaking principle will allow a better performance.
This project aims to design, build and field test a Row Side Machine for Continuous Harvesting of olives.
