Scribal news: information and society (1729-1754)

The series kept at the Public Library of Évora, that this project intends to make known, is the most complete collection of newsletters existing in Portugal, and its copies correspond to the earliest period among us when there is evidence of recurring circulation (1729-1754) em Portugal. This project will allow, therefore, recovering the largest amount of data ever assembled concerning this period of Portuguese history. Accordingly, beyond the transcription of the collection, composed by 14 codexes, this project allows the recovering and crossing of information about the period, characters,  places, culture, daily life. We are especially interested in getting from these sheets what was considered to be the most relevant news and how they were spread.   The project will create a digital instrument of automatic indexation based on the Portuguese of the period. At the end of this project (2010), we also intend to have finished the publication till the codex of 1744.
