Summary
The main objectives of this project are:
1. The study of the materials used to produce the Arraiolos Tapestry throughout the centuries
2. Establish temporal patterns of materials usage to apply in Arraiolos tapestries identification and characterisation.
This project involves:
1.Selection, sampling and stylistic study of a representative collection of rugs from the Ancient Art National Museum,
2.Characterisation and identification of the rugs fibres, mordants and dyes.
3. Accelerated ageing studies on dyed wool and model rugs samples to understand the rugs natural ageing processes.
4. Theoretical studies to predict the fibre colour dependence on the natural dyes and mordants used.
A multidisciplinary research team has been assembled to pursue these studies due to the nature of the subject and the multitude of analytical techniques needed. Publication of scientific papers, a web page and a workshop will be used to make the data available to specialists and public in general.

Goals, activities and expected/achieved results
O Projecto REMATAR irá realizar um estudo exaustivo e sistemático sobre os materiais utilizados ao longo dos séculos na produção dos tapetes de Arraiolos. Os tapetes estudados pertencem ao Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga que possui uma das mais completas e representativas colecções históricas destes tapetes.
