Summary

The aim of the INOGAZ project is: i) to characterize the chemical and isotopic composition of fluids (water and gas) related with hydrothermal/geothermal systems and vulcanologic/seismic settings; ii) to delineate hydrogeological conceptual models, defining the fluids origin and age, and evaluating the water/rock interaction processes; iii) to identify deep hydrothermal systems that are not disclosed to the surface through thermal springs or fumaroles; iv) to identify deep tectonic structures of raised permeability that are usually associated to hydrothermal systems and/or strong seismic activity; v) to select groundwater spots that can be used for long-term seismic-volcanic monitoring and hazards; vi) to identify magmatic processes, magma chambers and characterize the Azores hotspot.
