Summary

This project will develop and simplify existing methodologies for estimating ETo from a reduced number of parameters. Ideally, it should be possible to obtain a good estimate of ETo from a simple temperature sensor and the intensity of radiation being received on the solar panel.

The methodology will then be calibrated and adapted to field conditions using data from an existing weather station and A pan. This research will count on the expertise of team members from all three universities who will collaborate in the development of a reliable and simple algorithm adapted to various crops and landscaped areas.

Once a simple methodology has been developed it will be adjusted to the processing capacity of a PLC. The next project task will be to develop prototype irrigation controllers using PLCs to estimate daily ETo and command irrigation. These will be solar powered autonomous controllers that can be easily placed in any irrigated field.

Goals, activities and expected/achieved results
