COVID-19 Testing Program implemented at UÉ

The University of Évora (UÉ) implemented a COVID-19 Screening Program that consists of weekly testing by RT-PCR (nasopharyngeal exudate) to the academic community, by stratified random sampling. In addition, immunological tests are planned after outbreaks are identified, in these cases, with variable scope, defined according to the situation.

This COVID-19 screening program foresees the accomplishment of 75 weekly tests (45 students, 15 teachers, 10 non-teaching workers and 5 researchers) selected today by random algorithm and notified by email. The testing of the selected elements is scheduled for Wednesday, 11th of November, and will take place at S. João de Deus School of Nursing (ESESJD). The Dean of UÉ, Ana Costa Freitas, says that “participation is voluntary, but strongly encouraged, given that it is a measure for monitoring and containing the transmission of the disease”.

The initiative is part of the activities from the COVID-19 Testing Unit, through the ARCO project - Alentejo Region Applied Research for COVID-19, applied under Portugal 2020 - “Test with Science and Solidarity” Program - COVID-19.
