Presentation

Students present to the class the progress in their dissertation plan, while improving their knowledge regarding the state of the art of the main theme of their research.

Learning Goals

To guide students in the process of framing the Master thesis dissertation in relation to the state of the art regarding the technical-scientific knowledge of the selected domain.

To supervise the accomplishment of the tasks presented in the timeline approved in Seminário I.

To analyse the possible changes to the Master thesis dissertation structure originally presented.

How to search and select the contents that should be in the state of the art. How to highlight the work that will be perform, and how should it be framed in accordance with the present technical-scientific knowledge of the subject. Criteria to elaborate a good summary of the state of the art. Organization of the introductory chapter of the Master thesis. Organization of the bibliography and rules for citation of used literature.

Teaching Methods

Individual coaching and collective seminars are the basic teaching methods of the discipline. The evaluations has two components: (i) an oral presentation; and (ii) a synthesis report of the state of the art regarding the Master thesis subject.

The presentation is done before the two professors that share the classes of the curricular unit. This presentation has a scoring grid for clarity of speech, deepness of concepts and scientific quality, and the jury elements score, with the average corresponding to 50% of the curricular unit final grade. The other 50% correspond to the classification obtained in the synthesis report.
