Learning Goals

The Curricular Unit continues the CU Internship in Community and Public Health Nursing (ECSP), with two clinical experiences of equal duration, in a Public Health Unit (50%) and in a Community Care Unit (50%). Its purpose: to consolidate the development of skills in diagnosis, planning, provision, and assessment of specialized care in ECSP with a Final Report about the process.
Objectives: implement a community intervention project, according to the stages of health planning; contribute to the process of training groups and communities, integrating, coordinating and promoting Community and Public Health projects/programs; evaluate prevention, protection and health promotion projects/programs; perform/cooperate in epidemiological surveillance of a geodemographic scope; critically analyze the competence development process in ECSP; prepare report for public evidence.

Contents

This UC considers the competence profile of the Specialist Nurse in ECSP (Regulamento n.º 428/2018, DR, 2.ª série N.º 135 de 16 de julho de 2018) and the competences of Dublin for the 2nd Cycle. The selected contents intend to continue the Health Diagnosis made in the previous internship and develop all the Health Planning Stages of a Community Intervention Project, including the clinical experiences of the two internship contexts (USP and UCC):
• Determination of priorities,
• Setting of objectives,
• Selection and substantiation of strategies and methodologies,
• Operational preparation of the entire intervention project,
• Project monitoring and evaluation,
• Process leadership,
• Justification of choices, based on theorizing and scientific evidence.
Total UC hours include 160 report hours.

Teaching Methods

The internship must take place under the guidance and supervision of nurses specialized in the field, in PHU or CCU. At the end of this internship, the student must have completed at least 500 total hours in each setting.
Individual and/or group orientation sessions with students and supervisors allow discussion of the project to be developed. Subsequently, sessions will take place between the student and the supervisor in the development of the work to be done and preparation of the Final Report.
The evaluation corresponding to the clinical component will be done using a specific instrument, filled out by student and supervisor. The final evaluation results from the weighted average of the evaluation elements:
A. Clinical Component: 50% (35% teacher and clinical supervisor + 15% student)
B. Report Component: 50% (35% teacher and clinical advisor + 15% student)
Elements A and B must each have a minimum score of 10 points.
