This Curricular Unit (CU) aims to develop diagnostic assessment skills, using measurement tools sensitive to nursing care, as well as the development of therapeutic communication, the nursing assistance relationship and develop specialized skills in mental health nursing assistance with a person, group or family with mental health changes.
It is intended that students are able to:
- Co-building a helping relationship in nursing
- Support the indication of the various interventions according to the characteristics of the client's situation (stepped care).
- Apply in a reasoned manner (based on theory, technique and evidence) some specialized interventions most common in mental health nursing and psychiatry.
- Valuing the importance of clinical supervision in nursing helping relation

- The transfer / counter transfer process
- Therapeutic impasses
- The use of oneself in the therapeutic relationship
- Psychosocial rehabilitation policies and programs
- Strategies and methodologies. Education and Training in the education of individuals, groups and communities
- Psychotherapeutic Theories and Techniques
- Mental health intervention models and programs: (Case manager, reference therapist, among others)
- Specialized intervention in Mental Health:
- Psychotherapeutic interventions (relaxation techniques, management of aggression and impulse, use of expression mediators)
- Bio-based interventions (Psychopharmacology, Electroconvulsivotherapy)
- Sociotherapeutic interventions (socio-psychodramatic techniques)
- Psychoeducational Interventions (psychoeducation)
- Psychosocial interventions (therapeutic environment management, conflict resolution techniques; metacognitive training)
- Clinical supervision in nursing assistance

Teaching Methods

Expository-participatory method using the experience of the student group.
Help interview training in simulated environment, with role play and mirroring techniques
Assessment: Academic group work (80%) and presentation of the work (20%).
