To analyze the family as a care system and unit, supported by the conceptual framework of family health nursing and to look at the process of family care as a care unit and each of its members, throughout the life cycle and at different levels of prevention

Based on the competency profile of the Specialist Nurse in Community Nursing in the area of Family Health Nursing, as well as the recommended by the International Family Nursing Association, and also by the World Health Organization, we outline the objectives for this CU:
• To analyse the family as a care system and unit, based on the conceptual framework of family health nursing;
• To understand the complexity of the family system, its specificities and transitions throughout the life cycle;
• To prospect care process to family as a care unit, and for each of its members, throughout the life cycle and at different levels of prevention;
• To understand the need to enable family throughout the life cycle and in its transitions.
• To understand the need to integrate research and scientific evidence in the development of family nursing practices and interventions

Contents

1. Structuring concepts: Family (s), families in transformation and family health nursing;
2. Families, culture (s), gender and power;
3. Family transitions: Related to development, health-disease and situational processes;
4. The nursing care process for the family;
5. Caring for informal caregivers, autonomy, dependence and the end of life;
6. Evidence-based practice around the family as a care unit.

Teaching Methods

In the teaching of the Curricular Unit, will be mobilized methodologies that stimulate the acquisition of knowledge and skills by students, involving them in the teaching-learning process. Theoretical exposure will be combined with research, reflection, critical questioning and analysis. We also plan to do tutorial sessions.
Individual and group work spaces will also be created, within the scope of the program established and articulated with the project defined by the students.
The evaluation will be carried out, based on a written paper, individual or group work (maximum three students) with public presentation and discussion (70% Written Work + 30% Presentation and Discussion).
