To known the historic and social contexts of Medicine over time through the material culture and the artistic manifestations of each period.
To understand the historic and social context of Medicine development. To be able to interpret the artistic, architectonic and urban phenomena as cultural manifestations and symbolic representations of the medical ideas and practices.
To develop capacities of sensitization, identification and critical analysis of art, architecture and urbanism as iconographic and material documents of the history of Medicine.

1. The Medicine Iconography (from Antiquity to Contemporaneity).
2. The Human Body: ideas and representations - from the Perfection Ideal to the Ephemeral Body (sickness, old age and death).
3. The Medical Architecture and Typologies.
3.1 Convents, Monasteries and Refugees
3.2 The Hospitals and Asylums.
3.3 Sanatoriums, Themaes and Clinics
4. Urbanism and Salubrity
4.1 The Hygienist City
4.2 The Garden City
4.3 The Intelligent City
4.4 The Resilient City.

Teaching Methods

Methodologies: expositive teaching of the discipline fundamental contents of the discipline, with the utilization of auxiliary teaching methods. Oral participation of the students in analysing and interpreting art works and texts. Visits to museums, buildings and urban areas of particular interest to the syllabus.
Evaluation: Through the active participation of students in and a final written paper (with oral presentation in class). In the paper, students must analyse an artistic, or architectural, or urban reality as an iconographic and / or material expression of a given medic concept, problematic, theory or practice.
