Learning Goals

Acknowledgment of the dynamic character of the Earth during the past and the present.
Identification of the different types of data used in the study of the Earth. Recognition of the internal structure of the Earth. Knowing the different types of rocks. Understanding of the relationship between the internal and the external geodynamic processes. Understanding and recognition of the interactions between the tectonic, the lithological and the hydrological cycles.

Teaching Methods

The theoretical teaching of this curricular unit is based on lectures supported on slide shows (accessible to the students in the e-learning platform Moodle).
The practical part of this curricular unit includes a brief theoretical introduction to each module (cartography and identification of minerals and rocks in hand sample) and the resolution of pratical exercices of 1:25000 cartography and the determination of the minerals and rocks properties and classification,
Two models of evaluation are available to the students: (i) two tests with a theoretical and a practical component at the middle and at the end of the semester; (ii) final exam with a theoretical and a practical component.
