Learning Goals

The aim of this course is to give students basic knowledge on electronic spreadsheets. The topics covered include spreadsheet layout, formula creation, charting, report generation, and how to enhance a workbook and chart. This unit will also present spreadsheet database functions and business intelligence features.
At the end of this unit the students must achieve the following competences:
- Enter data
- Setup formulas
- Format spreadsheets in various aspects
- Create graphs
- Format data
- Understand how to use application software to analyze business cases and improve the efficiency of decision making

Teaching Methods

The teaching of this unit will consist of lectures, tutorials, self-study and group work. The main concepts of the unit will be delivered during lectures or tutorials. Practical exercises on the concepts will be carried out during tutorials. It is expected that students will attempt the tutorial exercises prior to attending the classes.

The evaluation is based on the continuous evaluation method and consists of the following elements: an examination, a group project and an oral presentation, with the weights of 60%, 30% and 10%, respectively.

The students that choose the evaluation by exam should attend a single exam with the weight of 100%.
