Learning Goals

1) The student will know and understand the communication within industrial networks.
2) The student will have the capability to configure and implement industrial Ethernet, Profibus and wireless X-Bee networks.
3) The student will know and understand a SCADA system (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
4) The student will have the capability to implement a real-time Control and Supervisory system (SCADA) to a moderate-complex Industrial facility.
5) The student should be able to implement a sensor monitoring system using the LabView industrial platform.

Contents

1) Local Control and Remote Control. Communication in distributed systems. Local industrial networks. Wireless networks.
2) Co-operation in GRAFCET multiple process. Master/slave control chains.
3) Industrial network Siemens-Profibus.
4) Industrial network Siemens-ethernet.
5) Wireless network X-Bee.
6) Introduction to the supervision and control systems (SCADA). Applications with the SCADA Siemens WinCC.
7) The NI systems of control and supervision. Labview project implementation.

Teaching Methods

The teaching method is based on theoretical classes and practical-Lab classes. An active learning system is focused to stimulate the student to make his own research on the matters presented in the classes.
Practical problems are solved in the classroom, with laboratory experimentation, what allow the students to identify and to become familiar with the studied industrial technology.

Assessment methods and criteria:
The grades are within the interval [0,20].
The assessment method consists of two experimental projects (N1, N2):
N1= Implementation of industrial network with HMI
N2 = Project and implementation of a SCADA System using Siemens WinCC
[NF] Final Grade: NF = NF = 0,3xN1+0,7xN2
If NF> 9.5 ^ Ni> 9.5: Approved.
