Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

Know and understand the blasting methods and cycle of mining operations, primarily on underground exploitation and tunnels.
Legal framework for the sector, evaluating and mitigating the
environmental impacts caused by mining.
Be able to apply and propose different methods of exploitation as the deposit characteristics.
Develop proper mining planning, programming cycle work according to the rules of safety.
Students should be able to collect and interpret relevant scientific information on the topics of the
curriculum, communicate ideas and scientific knowledge in oral and written form, organized in a
coherent and logical way of context affairs of this unit.
The syllabus enables students to have a diversity of knowledge related to the mining industry in
order to enable him to assume positions of responsibility in mines and tunnels.

Teaching Methods

Teaching methodology: in-person classes, in order to teach the student the fundamental concepts and techniques on methodologies related to the exploitation of underground mines and mining work cycle (drilling, charging and blasting, ventilation, scaling, loading and transport, bolt hole drilling, install bolt) complemented with field work that gives the student the possibility of acquiring skills in the practical application of the basic principles used in the management and technical direction of mining works, thus being the most suitable teaching methods to achieve the defined objectives for this Course Unit. Teaching using online platforms (i.e. Zoom) can be used in the theoretical component and in tutorial support.
Assessment: the student is allowed to choose between the two alternative regimes (art. 102 of the RAUE): - Continuous assessment - two written tests with equal weight (50%), with a minimum score of 8 values in each test; - Final assessment - Written exam (100%).
