            	  Presentation
The UC aims to promote the deepening of previous knowledge and skills, as well as the acquisition of new knowledge and skills informed by the state of the art in the areas of Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices, both human and veterinary.

	  Sustainable Development Goals
Learning Goals
The CU aims to promote the deepening of pre-existing knowledge and skills in large areas of science/technology, human and veterinary, related to pharmaceuticals (P) and medical devices (MD), as well as the acquisition of new knowledge and skills within of the state of the art (in rapid evolution in recent years). Thus, upon completing this course, the student should be able to: i) identify the issues that currently define the scientific and regulatory goals to be achieved in the evaluation of Ps and MDs used in human and animal medicine; ii) list the technical/scientific challenges raised in the use of Ps and MDs and the current existing solutions to overcome these challenges; iii) recognize current controversies in this area (including ethical, environmental and intellectual property) and the different stakeholders, and; iv) understand, design and develop a critical opinion on the aspects presented and put up for discussion.

	  Contents
This curricular unit has an open program, being taught in line with the research areas of the professors invited to participate. The seminars will address topics that will highlight recent advances in the area and its interdisciplinarity, the problems raised by development, manufacturing and end of life of Ps and MDs, the challenges faced by health professionals in their application and the methodologies developed to deal with these challenges. This rationale will continue in the Curricular Unit Seminars II. The seminars are:
- MDs in veterinary medicine.
- Medicines for veterinary use.
- Environment, resistance to antimicrobials and one health.
- Fundamentals of ethics in clinical research.
- Frontier products.
- Sterilization of medical devices.
- MDs in the treatment/diagnosis of chronic diseases.
- Industrial and intellectual property.
- Pharmacogenomics: effectiveness and safety.
- Digital solutions and artificial intelligence.

Teaching Methods
In-person classes/lectures by professors and/or invited professors/researchers on current and emerging issues within the area, during which there will be a reflection based on articles from highly relevant specialty journals and audiovisual media, previously made available by each of the speakers using the Moodle platform.

	  Assessment
Continuous assessment will be based on questions provided in advance by each lecturer and made available immediately after each session. The final mark will be the arithmetic mean of the 10 assessments carried out. The appeal assessment will consist of a written examination of alternative questions also provided by the lecturers.
