Learning Goals

In the context of major global challenges and resource depletion, notably geological / natural, remain local. Resource intensity of production and consumption patterns. The current intensity of resource use and occupation of the territory never found anything similar in the history of mankind. Consequently, occur environmental liabilities incompatible with sustainable development. As much as possible, the objective of the CU is to respond geologically to this situation.
1.Consolidation of Knowledge about the great environmental challenges;
2. Understand the problems related with the most common and significant environmental liabilities and the planning problems essentially conditioned by the geology and its liabilities;
3. to acknowledge the best practices available;
4. Understand the scientific and technological dimension of remediation and restoration practices and tools;
5. To acknowledge the market players.

1. Environmental Challenges of the 21st Century; Role of geology.
2.Great history & geological contingency.
3.Portugal in the international context regarding the environmental liabilities, spatial planning; state of art.
4.Legislation, directives and standards relevant to environmental liabilities and land use planning.
5.Benchmarking
6.Characterization and territorial project.
7.Field study visit

Teaching Methods

Due to the nature of the study object, involving the direct contact with the environment and situations that translate significant environmental liabilities and conflicts of use will be particularly effective.

It is privileged the continuous evaluation based on works in real context is preferred, based on the accomplishment of pre-projects
