UNESCO Chair in Intangible Heritage and Traditional Know-How

The purpose of this Chair is to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation on intangible cultural heritage and traditional craftsmanship. It will facilitate collaboration between high-level internationally recognized researchers and teaching staff of the University, other institutions in Portugal, elsewhere in Europe and Africa, as well as in other regions of the world.

The specific objectives of this Chair are to:

  • Establish a network of researchers and institutions in the Mediterranean and in Africa to support research, training, students and the mobitity of professionats as well as knowtedge-sharing in the fietds of tangible and intangibte heritage and traditronal know-how;
  • Develop and implement, jointly with partners, a cooperation programme to support, from a scientific point of view, the creation of a research centre of excellence at the University of Cape Verde (UNICV);
  • Provide postgraduate training in the fields of intangible heritage and traditional know-how; design and deliver short-term ICT-supported training courses for professionals, as well as marginalized groups;
  • Design and implement activities aiming to enhance the knowledge of young researchers on the tangible and intangible heritage;
  • Act as a clearinghouse for the collection and dissemination of good practices on the application of the intangible cultural heritage and traditional know-how to heritage conservation;
  • Cooperate closely with UNESCO on relevant programmes and activities
