Course Overview

The postgraduate course on "Science for a coexistence of humanity with our heavily threatened blue planet" is part of the offer of advanced training courses of the UNESCO Chair "Education and Science for Development and Human Well-being" (EDUWELL). This interdisciplinary course was created with the aim of developing learning in Portuguese, to train people capable of teaching and developing excellent research in different regions of the planet, in the current complex context of environmental and climate crisis.
It is structured in 3 CUs with thematic sessions, seminars and round tables, to promote the discussion that leads to a sustainable coexistence of humanity on planet Earth. It starts with an opening conference and ends with a closing conference, both delivered by guest speakers with recognition in the field. Overall, the following will be addressed: 1) ecological processes for sustainable management; 2) natural resource management and low-carbon energy policies for a paradigm shift; 3) biodiversity, conservation and sustainable agricultural systems; 4) food security for policy-making on global change; 4) environmental education, citizenship and civil society; 5) environmental crisis, climate, public policies and decision-making.

Career Prospects

The course offers a 15-credit postgraduate training, allowing to update knowledge in the current complex context of environmental and climate crisis. The course is of interest to professionals and students in the global and interdisciplinary field of "environment and sustainability".

Specific Entry Requirements

The course is aimed at Bachelors, Masters or PhD graduates from any scientific area, who in their pedagogical and professional career development, wish to acquire an integrated training or deepen their knowledge in the global area of "environment and sustainability", specifically in the following areas: natural resource management and sustainability; biodiversity, conservation and sustainable use; and approaches to the environmental crisis and public policies.
