To make available a general and fair context of Portuguese literary history of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as to develop the capacity for analyzing and understanding texts from those eras.

1. António Ferreira, Castro and the Renaissance tragedy.
2. Luís de Camões, Os Lusíadas and the epic genre in the 16th century.
3. Padre António Vieira, the Sermão da Sexagésima, oratory and conceit in the 17th century

Teaching Methods
Classes combine the lecture and seminar formats, including the reading and analysis of literary texts. Marking is done through two written tests - 50%+50% or, alternatively, through final examination - 100%.
