The French Language V (level B1 CEFR) promote the acquisition and development of the oral and written skills (production, reception and interaction), applied to Tourism, vocabulary enhancement and grammar practice.

Learning Goals

(CEFR Level: B1)

To study the language as means of professional communication to master the French language applied to Tourism. Understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters; deal with most situations likely to arise whilst travelling in an area where the language is spoken; produce simple connected text on topics which are familiar or of personal interest. Competences: can reasonably fluently sustain a straightforward description of one of a variety of subjects within his/her field of interest; can write straightforward connected texts on a range of familiar subjects within his/her field of interest; can understand straightforward factual information about common everyday or job related topics; can read straightforward factual texts on subjects related to his/her field and interest; can communicate with some confidence on familiar routine and non-routine matters related to his/her interests and professional field.

Contents

1. Orality
Oral understanding:
To hear and to understand announcements and oral instructions;
To understand an interaction among native announcers; to be listener.
Oral production:
Public announcements (information, instructions etc.);
Speaking from notes;
Oral Interaction:
Obtain goods and services;
Information exchange.
2. Writing
Written understanding:
Reading for orientation;
Reading and following instructions.
Written production:
Completing forms and questionnaires;
Producing posters;
Written Interaction:
Correspondence by letter, e-mail, etc.;
Passing and exchanging notes.

Teaching Methods

According to the descriptors established for the level B1 in the CEFR, the methodology adopted will focus on the acquisition and development of oral and written skills (production, reception and interaction), grammar practice and vocabulary enhancement apply to the study the language as means of professional communication to master the French language applied to Tourism.

Evaluation:
According to the Regulamento Académico da Universidade de Évora and the Regulamento de Avaliação de Conhecimentos – Critérios definidos pelo Departamento de Linguística e Literaturas.
Students may choose between two modes of assessment:
Assessment:
(1) Continuous assessment:
a. Written quiz (35%);
b. Oral quiz (25%);
The notes obtained in the written and oral test may not be less than 8 values.
c. Assignments, throughout the semester (20%+20%).
(2) Exam (1st and 2nd, special and extraordinary calls):
a. Written exam (60%);
b. Oral exam (40%).
