Learning Goals

This course to develop cognitive and technical skills in which the student can:
- Acquire knowledge about Conservation Medicine
- Understand the effects of climate change on endocrine disruption in animals and humans
- Understand the contexts of reproductive management for the maintenance of animal genetic resources
- To learn knowledge about importance, indicators and modalities for monitoring environmental health, strategies for monitoring health and biodiversity in wild populations
- Evaluate strategies that promote Conservation Medicine, ecological balance and minimizing the emergence of pathogens
- Analyze through case studies the socio-economic impact on public health, the environment and vulnerable species / conservation danger
- Collaborate in the development and implementation (virtual) of conservation strategies and improvement of environmental health, and in biomedical research studies.

Contents

- Conservation Medicine and Environmental Health, principles and interventions
- Anatomophysiological, ecological and behavioral aspects, with clinical importance in different wild animal species.
- Case studies, diseases and challenges for the conservation of vulnerable species and maintenance of ecosystem health
- Biodiversity and sustainable development
- Zoos and genetic diversity maintenance programs
- The role of the veterinarian in the multidisciplinary work of Conservation Medicine.

Teaching Methods

An approach by the introduction of theoretical foundations followed by the discussion of problem cases presented in the form of videos and / or publications will be used. In addition, students have to work on a previously assigned theme (draw) throughout the semester, present a summary and present it to peers and teachers.
Assessment in 2 ways:
Continuous (50% of the final grade) contemplates the global assessment of the attitude and work of individual and group analysis related to the group presentation of the case study with public debate, to which it adds (50%) in the written evaluation of all the contents covered throughout the semester.
Final Exam, if the student does not obtain approval in a continuous assessment regime, he / she can perform a final exam conditioned to students who have attended at least 75% of the classes; with assessment of the topics covered and carrying out an analysis and application of strategies to promote the resolution of a problem. UC approval with ≥9.5
