Sustainable Development Goals

Learning Goals

The Curricular Traineeship aims to integrate the knowledge and skills obtained throughout the Course through tutored activities, to be developed in a real work environment, in the most diverse Veterinary Medicine domains. Integrated in the last curricular semester, it constitutes a first work experience, integrated into a daily routine typical of the professional area selected for the internship, facilitating the student's integration in the professional market. It is intended that students acquire practical skills necessary for the performance of the medical-veterinary profession, as contextualized in the skills of day 1 [as defined by OIE and EAEVE], under the guidance of a tutor at the host institution (veterinary clinic, official body, service and research laboratories, among others).

Contents

Located in the 11th semester of the study plan, the Curricular Internship UC consists of a training period of a professional nature, performed extra-mural, where the student is exposed to work routines and situations that characterize the daily work of a particular professional domain. The theme and work area chosen by the student determines the specific syllabus. Under the direction of a teacher with experience in the area where the internship will take place, a learning plan will be designed to integrate the host institution's resources and benefit from the professional tutoring and experience of the external advisor. The student's activities must be oriented towards the objectives of the work.
At the end of the Curricular Internship, a document will be prepared specifically for this purpose, which may take the structure of a scientific dissertation, a project or an internship report, which will be discussed publicly.

Teaching Methods

The traineeship will be carried out in institutions of recognized merit with an active protocol of cooperation with the University. The curricular traineeship can only start with a maximum of 2 courses in arrears, as long as they do not pertain to the scientific area of the proposed traineeship. The work plan must be proposed to the Academic Services (SAC) by the end of the first month of the semester in which the student is enrolled in the “Curricular Internship” course.
In the time period between the end of the traineeship and the public defence, three collective sessions are previewed to discuss the ongoing work and collect feedback.
The discussion of the submitted dissertation/project work/traineeship report can only occur after the completion of all the courses in the programme. This public discussion is a mandatory condition for approval in this course. For the public discussion, a jury will be appointed according to the rules established in the UÉ master's regulations.
